We want to feed our retriever raw meat/bones and raw veggies only. Anyone have some good recipes to share? Thanks.Does anyone have raw meat recipes for dogs?
I just feed my dog a mix of raw meats and she gets some vegies from a raw meat roll I buy. The roll also contains kelp and vitamins and minerals and some other nutritional additives. I'm in Australia so it's pointless telling you the brand.
What I feed has been decided by what my dog will eat but you can try all of these things and see what your's likes. I don't usually mix or make recipes, but rather give different things each week.
Chicken wings and necks are good for the dog's teeth, as are meaty bones. I only feed the latter occasionally as they don't have much flesh on them.
For maintaining weight I feed ground meat, ox/beef heart, chicken hearts and the roll I mentioned, as well as other prepared raw meat foods with nutritional additives. If you want to spoil your dog you can give it chicken breast.
Things like liver and tripe are good if you can get your dog to eat them. i'd only feed this once a week, as well as raw salmon which is good for omega 3. You could also mix some chopped carrots and broccoli into the meats and raw eggs with crushed shells are supposed to be good also. High in protein.
A dog's digestive system passes the food quick so the main thing is to focus on foods like this that are highly nutritional so they can absorb as much as possible in that time.Does anyone have raw meat recipes for dogs?
Basic Raw Dog Food Recipe
for a 20-25# dog:
1/2 cup raw meat (ground poultry, beef, lamb, organ meats)
1/2 cup raw pureed vegetables (variety!)
1/4 cup cooked whole grains
1 teaspoon bonemeal powder (double for puppies and pregnancy)
1/4 teaspoon ascorbic acid powder with bioflavinoids (vitamin C)
1/4 teaspoon kelp powder
Some folks eliminate the grains and increase the meat and vegetables proportionately. The meat must be RAW. Dogs should be fed raw bones (cooked bones will splinter). Vegetables must be pureed or they will come out looking pretty much the same way they did going in.
Wild canines get their vegetable matter by eating the digested intestinal contents of their vegetarian prey.
There is nothing wrong with supplementing a good quality dog food with raw beef or chicken and raw vegetables and rice, oatmeal, or pasta.
If you are looking to go with a totally raw diet -- BE CAREFUL. Bones can cause impacted bowels and some dogs have a problem with raw diets as they can get pancreatitis (there was just a blurb on this in Dog Fancy Magazine).
I've been raw feeding for 6 years and don't use a recipe, rely more on percentages of muscle meat, organs, bones. Google www.dogaware.com, click on dog feeding info, There's a lot of good info on line to guide you on correct nutritional needs, it's more than just meat and bones. My diet has evolved over the years and I no longer feed veggies but do give my dogs raw green tripe regularly. Good Luck.
I have dogs that can sometime be picky, I wouldn't reccomend feeding them raw meat all the time. Maybe some lean ground beef with garlic rolled into meatballs for a treat once in a while. I know my dogs love chicken and rice with green beans and carrots.( I make a big pot full, cooked of course.) I also give them banana's and strawberries. Do not feed grapes they are toxic!
I dont have any, but please email me if you find any healthy ones, I even asked my vet for some, he said cooked lean meat, chicken, potatoes, carrots and thats about it ! Good luck !
